Shire Horses

Set away from the cottages is the family's much loved and entertaining collection of animals. As the visitor's books testify, these 'friends' are an endearing feature of life at the Farm and seem to appeal as much to those wanting peace and quiet as to both young and old, who voluntarily, can't wait to join in with the daily feeding and grooming, or the collection of free-range eggs.

Here at Hendra we have:

Animal Activities

Children (and adults!) love to interact with the animals. Favourite activities include:

  • grooming the horses and helping around the stables and in the fields
  • Feeding the hens and ducks and collecting the eggs
  • Feeding the sheep and alpacas – the sheep also enjoy an occasional treat, custard creams being the no.1 favourite!
  • playing football with Keen
Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate dogs - exceptions being guide dogs and hearing dogs both of which are more than welcome - but under supervision your children are welcome to pamper our four-legged residents! Should you want to bring your dogs then we have details of kennels that are about a mile from the Farm.

Animal Gallery

To help you identify all the animals here at Hendra, there is a poster of them in each of the cottages but if you can't wait, you can see them here too!
