Shire Horses

We have owned and bred Shire horses on a small scale for the past 16 years. We started off with our foundation mare Viddy, who foaled Beauty in 1996, and then Beauty foaled Connie in 2005. In between, Viddy and Beauty had colt foals Hendra Trelawny and Hendra Orlando, which were sold on.

Both Viddy and Beauty have done well in the show ring, especially Beauty, who had a promising future until struck down with a life threatening illness after the birth of Connie.

Viddy is now 19 years old and is permanent retirement.

Beauty (Senater Tegen's Beauty) is an amazing horse who possesses a phenomenal will to live. She was extremely successful in the show ring and we had high hopes for her. Her first foal, Orlando, was stunning and we were looking forward to her next, due in May 2005. Unfortunately, she had a terrible time foaling, and we were very lucky not to lose both her and the foal (Connie). Just when we thought she was over the worst and both her and Connie seemed to be recovering , she was struck down with a dreadful illness and was given just a 5% chance of survival - Toxic Laminitis. For the next 14 months we battled, along with the most supportive team of professionals you could wish for, to save her life.

Thankfully, she was a model patient and seemed to understand that we were all trying to help her. The full story, from our wonderful farrier, can be found here. Amazingly, she made a full recovery and is now enjoying life again with her family.

Connie (Hendra Conwenna) is now a strapping great six year old. She is a stunning mare, and had a super colt foal to Sladbrook Sensation on 26th June 2009 - Hendra Jackson. Jackson has now been sold on and Connie is expecting her second foal in Summer 2011.
