We have owned and bred Shire horses on a small scale for the past 14 years. We started off with our foundation mare Viddy, who foaled Beauty in 1996, and then Beauty foaled Connie in 2005. In between, Viddy and Beauty had colt foals Hendra Trelawny and Hendra Orlando, who were sold on. Both Viddy and Beauty have done well in the show ring, especially Beauty, who had a promising future until struck down with a life threatening illness after the birth of Connie (see below).
Viddy (Holemoor Devon Violet) is no longer able to have foals due to a medical problem, so she is now being ridden. Shires make wonderful riding horses, and are far from the plods they would lead you to believe! Viddy loves to hack out and is wonderful in traffic, but plastic bags and fluttering leaves are treated with the greatest suspicion!! She adores jumping, and makes quite a sight when flying over the fences in the sandschool! She is extremely receptive to voice commands and very well mannered.

Beauty (Senater Tegen's Beauty) is probably the bravest horse you could ever meet. She was extremely successful in the show ring and we had high hopes for her. Her first foal, Orlando, was stunning and we were looking forward to her next, due in May 2005. Unfortunately, she had a terrible time foaling, and we were very lucky not to lose both her and the foal (Connie). Just when we thought she was over the worst and both her and Connie seemed to be recovering , she was struck down with the most dreadful thing imaginable - Toxic Laminitis. For the next 14 months we battled, along with the most supportive team of professionals you could wish for, to save her life. Thankfully, she was a model patient and seemed to understand that we were all trying to help her. The full story, from our wonderful farrier, can be found here
Happily, she made a full recovery and is now in permanent retirement. She has days out during the Summer months visiting local shows and fetes, as she is quite a celebrity. Unfortunately, her showing days are over as she is not quite sound on hard or uneven ground.
Connie (Hendra Conwenna) is now a strapping great three year old. She is a stunning mare, and will be off to stud this year so we can, hopefully, continue the line. If time permits we'd like to get her into the show ring as she is as good a horse as her Mum, if not better!
