Pigs
Pigs are delightful animals. They are extremely intelligent and clean (in their toilet behaviour), and are always pleased to see you - especially when food or a scratch is proffered. We do not breed pigs on the farm, but prefer to buy piglets at weaning (weaners), which is when they are about 8 weeks old. They live outside in large pens, where they are free to dig, wallow and behave in a pig-like manner! They have deep straw beds in their arks where they spend a considerable amount of time sleeping! Ours are fed a proprietory pig ration supplemented with grass, fruit and vegetables. We always have native bred pigs which are either pure bred or crosses, and all the piglets are sourced locally from trusted sources. They are sent to slaughter when they reach about 80kgs in weight, which is the size they need to be in order to get bacon, as well as pork (baconer). Our preferred breeds are the Saddleback and Gloucester Old Spot.
All our pork, bacon and sausages can be purchased from us - please click here for more details.
