'the finest birds reared with love and care...'
We supply several breeds of beautiful point of lay hybrid pullets (young hens) that are ideally suited for keeping free range. They are all reared in England and come to us from 16 weeks of age and upwards. They usually start to lay at around 18 - 20 weeks.
All our birds are housed in purpose built, well ventilated sheds with thick shavings beds and plenty of perch space, and are fed top quality layer and corn rations. As bio-security is paramount, all the housing is completely disinfected between batches and footbaths must be used before entering the sheds.
All the hens are hybrids and are bred for their superior egg laying abilities, with consistent shell quality and colour. They all have extremely amenable temperaments, and are very hardy to the vagaries of the British climate. They all get on very well together so you can mix and match to your heart's content! We usually have some hens in stock but not all the breeds are always available - please contact us to check what we have in.
Exclusive to Hendra Farm Poultry

The Trelawny Super Black is a newly developed strain of hybrid hen with superlative laying abilities. She is a very hardy, docile hen who will lay, on average, 275 - 280 eggs per year. Her large eggs are a deep Maran brown, and, although she comes into lay later than the other hybrids, she will continue to lay well for several years. She is a stunning black bird with a beetle green sheen, and some have golden brown feathers around the neck and breast area. This hen is proving very popular with our customers as she is so placid and friendly, although extremely nosey!!!

We also supply Trelawny Cornish Cross table birds - these pure white birds are unique in that they are the natural cross between an original old meat breed, the Whiterock female, and the more modern Cornish Giant male. They are a combination of some of the heaviest dual-purpose breeds still in existence, and can be grown to finish weights (approx. 12 wks) without heart or leg problems. We can supply them, in any quantity, as day olds or growers - to order only. Small orders are welcome. Sorry, no hatching eggs available. (Birds supplied on a collection only basis).
We are the only supplier in Cornwall of these special breeds!!

... the three "Trelawny Gold" chickens we purchased in May 2008 have proved to be excellent quality, as over a twelve month period they have laid at least 350 eggs each, and have continued to lay now into the 16th month. We are so pleased with them, and wouldn't consider going anywhere else than Hendra Farm when we need to re-stock. Many thanks Senara for all your interest in their progress! Sheila & Arthur Gardner
You can place orders by telephone or email or just take a chance on what we have in stock. You can purchase any number of hens, although we won't sell you just one if you haven't got any others! When you come to collect your birds you will need to bring a strong box to take them home in - cat carriers are ideal for the job.
We are always willing to offer advice and help to the new chicken keeper. You are welcome to view all of the hens amongst our own free range laying flock, and to ask any questions you make have about keeping chickens. Please 'phone to make an appointment.
We are open 7 days a week, but please call before coming.
(Not Fridays from June - September)
